SEASONS

Flats Fishing
May - July

The season begins in Peconic Bay, my favorite fishery, with hundreds of miles of shoreline, crystal-clear water, and a thriving population of striped bass and bluefish. Targeting large fish in just a few feet of water makes this one of the premier fishing experiences on the North Fork. As water temperatures rise in the Peconic Bay Estuary, the fish transition to cooler summer grounds, and our focus shifts to the South Shore Bays and East Hampton. These areas offer a diverse fishery featuring rips, rocky structure, and expansive sandy flats.

Big Boat Inshore Fishing
July - November

One of the greatest advantages of fishing the East End is its close proximity to cold ocean water throughout the summer, which makes fishing great year-round. As temperatures rise, striped bass and bluefish migrate east, following the cooler currents. During this time of year, we primarily use the SeaVee to run into  Block Island Sound and beyond. This fishery consistently produces trophy-sized fish on light tackle and fly, making it one of the best opportunities of the season to land a true fish of a lifetime.

Big Boat Bottom Fishing
May - November

These trips are great for all skill levels, especially beginners and kids! This style of fishing is known for its fun, action-packed days. We catch a variety of species, including porgies, blowfish, weakfish, kingfish, and blackfish. The boat launches out of New Suffolk or Greenport, but we can pick up clients from
Southampton, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, and beyond.

Gulf Coast Fishing
Winter

When the season slows down on Eastern Long Island, Fish The Fork heads south to Louisiana and Mississippi, targeting redfish and speckled trout along the Gulf Coast. Winter trips focus on shallow-water fly fishing and light tackle opportunities in some of the most productive inshore fisheries in the country

Captain BEN savercool

Ben Savercool, owner and captain of Fish The Fork, is celebrating
10 years on the water guiding anglers across the East End. An Orvis-endorsed guide, Ben specializes in fly fishing and light tackle trips targeting striped bass, bluefish, fluke, and the seasonal migrations that make the North Fork one of the Northeast’s most exciting fisheries.

A lifelong fisherman with deep North Fork roots, Ben built Fish The Fork on a simple idea: great days on the water come from local knowledge, patience, and a genuine love for the craft. Whether you're stepping onto the boat for the first time or returning for another season, Ben runs relaxed, welcoming trips where anglers learn, laugh, and chase unforgettable fish.

Ten years in, he’s still doing what he loves most—reading the tides, sharing the experience, and proving that the best fishing happens when you fish like a local.
